Early on in your placement you will be introduced to a variety of Deloitte clients. Your job will be to help deliver audit, transaction and advisory support to them. Candidates will train towards a professional qualification throughout their time on the scheme and be invited to study towards a specialism. These might include: Core Audit, Risk and Regulation, Financial Services Audit, Entrepreneurial Business, General Insurance Regulations and Public Sector Audit Regional. You can expect to experience a reasonable amount of responsibility from early on in your training.
Client contact will begin from day one of your training in tax consulting. The diverse selection of clients from different industries that you will work with require assistance in solving complex business issues. You will be coached in key tax consulting skills whilst working towards your professional qualifications including Chartered Accountancy (ACA) and Chartered Institute of Taxation (CTA). The areas that you may join during your training scheme include Business Tax Consulting, Indirect Tax Consulting and Global Employer Services.
Roles in consulting are usually project-based and involve working with global clients on some of the more complex issues that they may be experiencing. You will be involved in researching the initial project ideas all the way through to delivering the end solution. This will almost certainly involve a great deal of relationship-building, presenting, gaining competitor knowledge and investigating the industries and clients that you are working for. Consulting opportunities are available in many different areas including Actuarial, Rewards and Analytics, Technology, Human Capital and Strategic & Operations.
Graduates are key in many aspects of this area which was previously known as Corporate Finance. Deloitte’s clients require advice on topics such as mergers and acquisitions, Initial Public Offerings, due diligence, fraud detection and improvement recommendations for under-performing businesses. Opportunities for ambitious graduates exist in Forensic Technology, Real Estate and Restructuring Services.
Many of the services that Deloitte offer require technical staff to support them in their work. Therefore the company is able to offer a wide range of technology roles to graduates – these include positions in Risk Advisory, Tax – Tax Consulting, Consulting – Technology, Corporate Finance – Forensic Technology, Consulting – Finance and Deloitte Digital. Each area has a different set of qualification requirements but many require at least a 2:2 degree.

What Work Experience Is Necessary For A Graduate Job At Deloitte?
It is important that you have at least 4 weeks work experience before applying for any graduate job at Deloitte. It does not necessarily need to be related to the field you’re interested in and it is not required that the work was carried out in 1 x 4 week block. Instead the experience can be made up of non-continuous volunteering and work experiences.
How To Apply For A Graduate Job At Deloitte
Once you have decided which area you would like to work in at Deloitte, you should check the entry requirements for each specific route of the graduate scheme as they can vary widely depending on the position that you’re interested in.
Also check the deadline – different schemes at Deloitte are open to applications at various points during the year.
You will normally begin the application process by filling in an online application form which will include sections on education, career motivation and work experience.
You will be contacted within 3 working days and if you have been successful you will be invited to complete an online assessment. This will comprise of:
• Numerical Test
You will be asked to complete a 30 minute numerical test – this will give you the opportunity to show off your analytical skills by answering questions relating to graphs, percentages and tables.
• Critical Thinking Test
This test is also 30 minutes long and comprises of 40 questions. You will be tested on your ability to evaluate information and determine logical conclusions from the evidence that you’re presented with.
If you pass the online assessments, you will be invited to fill in a Service Line Questionnaire which is your opportunity to state the area(s) that you might be interested in working in. This is an information gathering stage for Deloitte to ensure that you are invited for interview at the correct office.
There are typically two selection interviews – a first round interview and a final interview.
The first round interview will last around an hour and will assess your motivation and behaviours. You will have the chance to learn more about the firm and the role, but you will also be asked to respond to a case study that is given to you on the day. You should be prepared to talk extensively about a particular project or piece of work that you’ve been involved in over a period of time, detailing your role, challenges and successes.
If you are invited to come back for a final interview, then you will be notified of a presentation piece that you must make for 5-10 minutes. The interview will be carried out by a senior member of the service line that you’re applying for. Your values and core drivers will be assessed so you must be prepared to talk about yourself at length.
You will be contacted no later than 3 working days after the assessment with the outcome of the interview.
